Treatment to hair thinning in the vertex
Treatment to hair thinning in the vertex

Before first surgery to the vertex. One year later

The first line treatment for the vertex area should be medical therapy – either minoxidil 5% or finasteride. However, some patients are not able or are unwilling to take medication. Other patients do not respond to treatment. IF the donor hair reserves are sufficient, hair transplant surgery can be successfully performed. Dr Robin Unger always warns patients that the density in this region will always appear lower than the frontal area, because the hair is oriented in a whorl and thus the shingling effect of one hair overlapping another is lost. The photo shows a patient with moderate thinning in the crown after one surgery to treat the entire area of current and future loss – the center of the whorl is never treated in isolation by Dr. Unger.
